Joliet, IL – The City of Joliet has reached a settlement with several parties concerning the NorthPoint Development project. This agreement involves Houbolt Road Extension JV, LLC, CenterPoint Properties Trust, CenterPoint Joliet Terminal Railroad, LLC, East Gate-Logistics Park Chicago, LLC, New Wave Farms, LLC, and NorthPoint Development, LLC.
The settlement stipulates that NorthPoint's emergency access to Route 53 for truck traffic will be terminated. Instead, trucks must use the Closed Loop Truck Network to avoid local roads in Joliet.
To address concerns from residents about traffic through residential areas, a permanent cul-de-sac will be built on Millsdale Road east of the Union Pacific Railroad. This construction aims to prevent vehicles from heading towards Route 53 where there are residential communities.
Under this agreement, the City of Joliet will no longer maintain roads and bridges within the NorthPoint Closed Loop Truck Network. This change is expected to save the city hundreds of millions of dollars over time. Both CenterPoint and NorthPoint have committed to collaborating with the city on traffic improvements to alleviate existing issues on city roads.
"This settlement agreement improves public safety and will better serve Joliet and our regional partners."
Joliet is located in Will and Kendall counties in Illinois and serves as the county seat of Will County. It was reported as the third largest city in Illinois at the 2020 census with a population of 150,362.
