REGULAR MEETING of the City Council of the City of Lockport, Illinois was held on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 in the Board Room, 3rd Floor, of the Central Square Building, 222 E. Ninth Street, Lockport, Illinois. Mayor, Steve Streit called the Meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

LIAISON REPORT

1. McDonald – City of Lockport received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from Government Finance Officers Association

2. Bergbower

a. Rain barrel and Composter Sale – June 23-June 27, register on the City website

b. Bloom meeting in April at the Library was well-attended, nearly 50 attendees.

c. Lockport Recycles collected 200 pounds of plastic bags. They are aiming to collect 1000 pounds to create a bench.

d. Bloom Lockport – Pop-up Party at the Bloom garden – May 17, 2025, 11-1 pm

3. Bartelsen

a. Beautification – Spring/Summer contest – residents are nominated by Alderman and will be awarded at August 6 City Council meeting. Confirm your nomination by July 14 by emailing Brittni at bcalderon@lockport.org. Flyers will be delivered to nominees, with a QR code to scan for nominations.

4. Saban

a. Lockport Art Council – Mission 1895 event – June 1 thru Sept 27. Collect all 40 cards, scan QR codes at locations to get more details, and win prizes. Start your adventure at mission1895.com.

5. Pugh

a. Newest police office, Jacob Van Byssum, graduated from the Police Training institute police academy in Champaign and is currently in the Department’s 12 week field training program

b. May 16 – Annual Cop on a Rooftop Special Olympics fundraiser at both Lockport Dunkin Donuts, from 5 am thru 12 pm.

c. May 23 – Commander Patrick Ellanson will be graduating from Northwestern University Center for Public Safety School of Police Staff & Command.

d. During April, Lockport Officers took part in a distracted driving campaign which resulted in 95 citations being issues for other moving and/or equipment violations. This is part of the Illinois Department of Transportation grant that Lockport police department applies for and receives yearly to enforce traffic laws in addition to their regular traffic enforcement goals. Since October 2024, these campaigns have resulted in 281 traffic stops, 299 enforcement contracts with 3 detainable arrests being made totaling 245 hours of total enforcement, all of which is reimbursed thru the Illinois Department of Transportation Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program grant. During the summer months, these campaigns pick up the pace and will run on almost a daily basis to enforce speeding, seatbelt, distracted driving and impaired driving violations.
