Lad Dennis Smutny II | Vandenberg Funeral Home Mokena

Lad Dennis Smutny II, age 83, of Joliet, IL, passed away on February 12, 2025. A U.S. Air Force Veteran, Lad was an avid Chicago Bears fan. He enjoyed outdoor activities, including fishing, boating, waterskiing, and jet skiing. Lad also had a passion for Corvette cars and indulged in simple pleasures like ice cream, hamburgers, and fries. Known for his handiness, Lad was a skilled handyman who could fix just about anything. He held a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lewis University and was a graduate of J. Sterling Morton High School. In his youth, he had a memorable job at JCPenney.

Lad was the beloved former husband of Mary Jo Smutny and the loving father of Mary Jill (Alfredo) Lopez and Steven (Eran Miller) Smutny. He was the caring brother of Patricia (Al) Spilttgerber and the late Marilyn Smutny. Lad was the son of the late Lad Smutny Sr. and Adelaide Smutny. He was a kind uncle to several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Church in Mokena, IL, followed by interment at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, IL. For more information, please contact 708-479-1210 or visit www.vandenbergfuneralhome.com.
