Will County Gazette

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Will County Clerk on January 14, 2025. The request was made by us at the Will County Gazette, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

In our pursuit of transparency and accountability in public institutions, we requested for specific records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. Specifically, we sought a list of candidates running for the upcoming 2025 Consolidated Elections.

The information requested includes candidate names, the dates they filed their candidacy, and the offices they are running for. We believe that this information is essential in our role as a media organization in disseminating information to the public.

As a member of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we have asked for a fee waiver for this request based on our professional status. This practice is not uncommon as it aids us in fulfilling our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
