BEECHER - Karen Linea Strid Hamer, RN, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion. Born on March 26, 1940, to Jean and Stanley Strid, Karen was the cherished mother of Kristine Vandermark (Doug) and devoted godmother to Tony Marine. She was preceded in death by her sons Michael and Ray Ray Hamer. With a heart overflowing with love, Karen adored her grandchildren, James Vandermark (Caitlin) and Kara Ociepka (Brian), who both followed her path as Registered Nurses, bringing her immense joy. Her great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Oliver, and Axel held a special place in her heart.

Family was the cornerstone of Karen's life. She held her siblings dear, treasuring the memories made with each of them. Karen shared a special bond with her sisters, Vivian Marine and Bonnie Nelson, and her brothers Phillip Wilson, Stellan Strid, Kippy Wilson, and Bruce Wilson. She will be missed by many beloved nieces and nephews.

A proud graduate of Michael Reese Hospital Medical Center in the class of February 1961, Karen dedicated 55 years of her life to geriatric and psychiatric nursing. Her career was a source of happiness and fulfillment, reflecting her selflessness and love for helping others. An advocate for animals, Karen opened her heart to any stray cat in need of care, reuniting in heaven with her dearly loved feline companions.

Karen will be remembered for her unwavering strength, dedication to family, and infectious joy. Her selfless nature, strong work ethic, and pride in her nursing career serve as a lasting tribute to her spirit. Her kindness, generosity, and ability to bring happiness to those around her will be dearly missed.

Visitation will be held on December 28th at Hacks Funeral Home in Beecher, IL, at 10 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions to PAWS, the Alzheimer's Association, or Shriner's Children's Hospital are appreciated.
