Will County State’s Attorney James W. Glasgow announced that Marquel Jimerson, a 29-year-old resident of Joliet, was found guilty on charges of robbery, intimidation of a witness, and three counts of domestic battery. The verdict came late Friday afternoon after a jury trial presided over by Judge Art Smigielski. Sentencing and post-trial motions are set for October 22, 2024.

The incident occurred on February 6, 2024, when Dana Bass reported to Joliet Police that Jimerson had assaulted her earlier that night at Harrah’s Casino in Joliet. According to trial testimony, as Bass left the hotel room, she saw Jimerson approaching her in the hallway with threats to kill her. He forced his way into the room, attacked Bass physically, and took money and personal identification from her purse.

An eyewitness present during the attack informed police that Jimerson threatened both individuals with death if they contacted authorities. The eyewitness managed to escape and alerted hotel security. With assistance from Joliet Police Department officers, security entered the room where they found Jimerson hiding behind the door.

At the police station, officers noted injuries on Bass's arms, face, head, and scratches on her back.

Jimerson faces an extended prison sentence ranging from 3-14 years for robbery. He also faces mandatory imprisonment of 2-10 years for intimidation and between 1-6 years for each count of domestic battery.

State’s Attorney Glasgow expressed gratitude towards Assistant State’s Attorneys Sarah West, Matt Dilday, Art Guerra; Detective Stephen Boe; Victim Witness Advocate Yesenia Almazan; and IT Specialist Braulio Guzman for their dedication in achieving this prosecution success.
