FOIA Request Sent to City Of Crest Hill Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 25, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City Of Crest Hill Finance Department on October 25, 2024. The request, made by us at the Will County Gazette, a media organization committed to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, seeks detailed information about sales tax collected from retailers in the city.

Specifically, we are seeking records that detail sales tax collected from retailers from January 1, 204 until the present date. The requested data includes sales tax collected from retailers by month versus projected figures, the number of active retail locations paying sales tax by month, and the names of each retailer along with their gross retail sales reported for each month.

As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

The Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140) provides us with the right to access this information. We prefer receiving these records in an electronic format for ease of use and distribution.

We await a response from the City Of Crest Hill Finance Department regarding this request. We remain committed to keeping our readers informed about local government activities and ensuring transparency in all matters affecting them.
