FOIA Request to City of Joliet Regarding Unpaid Parking Violations on October 28, 2024.

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Will County Gazette have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Joliet. The request, sent on October 28, 2024, seeks access to records detailing all currently unpaid parking violations within the city.

The information requested includes the name of the offender, their address, the amount due for each violation, the date of the violation, and the total amount due. This data is critical in enabling us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe that access to such public records is essential. Given our role in disseminating information to our readership and wider audience, we have also requested a fee waiver as per standard provisions for media professionals under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.

We await a response from the City of Joliet regarding this request and will keep our readers updated with any developments.
