Village of New Lenox Safe Communities America, Emergency Preparedness Task Group met July 17.

CALL TO ORDER

Dan Martin called the meeting to order at 10:32am.

IN ATTENDANCE

The Emergency Preparedness Task Group Members in attendance were Dan Martin / Village of New Lenox, Amy Maher / New Lenox Community Park District & New Lenox Chamber of Commerce, Carl Cicero / Metra, Amy Kempa / Hero, Damarcus WiLfong / Sam’s Club, Joe Malone / Southern Cross Company, Carol Michalski / Servpro, Patty Cunningham / ParamontEO – Crest Lighting.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

The Minutes from May 15, 2024 Task Group Meeting, which had been disseminated via email to Task Group Members, were discussed. Dan Martin made a motion to approve the minutes as presented, seconded by Carol Michalski. After no further discussion, the motion carried, and the minutes were approved.

NEW BUSINESS

CERT Class #20 will be held in the Community Room at the New Lenox Village Hall on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. The dates are as follows: 9/10, 9/12, 9/17, 9/19, 9/24, 9/26, 10/1 and 10/3. The Final Exercise, Graduation and Luncheon will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024 from 8:00am to 12:00pm. PLEASE ASSIST WITH MARKETING!

CERT Class #1 started in 2009!

“Stop the Bleed”

“Stop the Bleed” will be held in the Community Room at the New Lenox Village Hall from 7:00pm to 8:30pm on July 30th and October 9th. The July 30th class currently has 45 citizens registered (via Eventbrite) to attend.

“Surviving an Active Shooter Encounter”

This course will be taught by Joe Malone on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm in the Community Room at the New Lenox Village Hall.

September (2024) National Preparedness Month

In support of National Preparedness Month, a 20-Hour Basic CERT Class is being held. If task group members have additional ideas on how we can support this National (FEMA) campaign, please let Dan know.

New Collaborative Partners Needed

We’ve lost a couple partners due to schedule conflicts and busy schedules. As such, additional partners (organizations / individuals) are needed. Ideas and suggestions are welcomed.

New Courses / Programs Needed

We are willing to host courses that include emergency preparedness, public safety, emergency management, severe weather preparedness, etc… Ideas and suggestions are welcomed. Will County EMA (who was not present at the meeting on 7/17/24) does have classes, Dan will reach out to them.

GOOD OF THE ORDER / ORGANIZATION UPDATES

Metra - Operation Lifesaver presentation from 7:00pm to 8:00pm, via Zoom videoconference.

Servpro - Will County Active Threat Wellness Conference is 11/13-11/15. Carol will forward to Dan the flyer to share.

NEXT COALITION MEETING

The next New Lenox Safe Community Coalition meeting will take place on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 / 10:30am via Zoom Videoconference.

NEXT TASK GROUP MEETING

The next Task Group Meeting will take place on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 / 10:30am via Zoom Videoconference.
