The City of Joliet Arts Commission Public is set to convene a meeting on Wednesday, May 15, at 5 p.m. The gathering will take place in the Community Room on the second floor of the Joliet Police Department, located at 150 W. Washington Street, Joliet, IL 60432.
The agenda for the meeting includes a roll call, approval of minutes, and an opportunity for citizens to voice their opinions on agenda items. Each speaker will be allotted a maximum of four minutes. It should be noted that this is not a question and answer period and typically neither staff nor Commission members respond to public comments. Any speaker who disrupts the harmony of the meeting may be called to order by the Presiding Officer and could forfeit their opportunity to speak.
Old business will be discussed before moving onto new business which includes topics such as the election of a Vice-Chair, formulation of the City Square Sculpture Initial Review Committee, review and selection of WriteOn Joliet proposals, presentation of projected grant funds, and selection of potential projects for the remaining FY2024 IAC Funds.
Further discussions will revolve around new or old business not slated for final action or recommendation. This segment will cover topics like the new Commission structure and subcommittees, updates on various projects including Poet Laureate Reading Event, Community Policing Sculpture Project and George Mikan Sculpture Project along with deliberations on potential social media platforms for the Arts Commission.
There will also be a section dedicated to public comment on non-agenda items where speakers are allowed up to four minutes each. Similar rules apply as with comments on agenda items; it's not a Q&A session and disruptive behavior may lead to forfeiture of speaking rights.
The meeting is set to adjourn thereafter. It's worth noting that this meeting will be held in an accessible location. Those requiring reasonable accommodation are encouraged to contact Christa M. Desiderio, City Clerk, at (815) 724‑3780.
