JOLIET—Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow announced that Jose Ramon Cervantes-Diaz, 52, of Bolingbrook, was found guilty yesterday of three counts of Child Pornography following a bench trial before Circuit Judge Carmen Goodman. Cervantes-Diaz was implicated after Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Chicago received information about an individual accessing a secure messaging platform involved in the sharing of child pornography. The investigation revealed that a user in the group chat had the username "Jose," later identified as Cervantes-Diaz.
During the investigation, Cervantes-Diaz admitted to authorities that he had been in chatrooms where child pornography files were shared, but he claimed, "He had only viewed them." However, a forensic analysis of his cell phone uncovered disturbing files of child pornography involving underage girls engaging in sexual acts with adults and animals.
Cervantes-Diaz is now facing sentencing scheduled for July 17, with a possible probation term of 3 to 7 years, to be served at 50 percent. Glasgow commended the dedication of Assistant State’s Attorney Mark Fleszewski, Administrative Professional Sharon Monson, and HSI Agents Jennifer Finerty, Jose Castaneda, and Terrence McCabe in handling this case.
