PRESENTATION:

Joliet Area African American Historic Context Study by Jayne Bernhard, City Planner & Liaison to the Historic Preservation Commission

Jayne Bernhard, City Planner & Liaison to the Historic Preservation Commission, briefly discussed the background of the Certified Local Government matching grant request for the Joliet Area African American Historic Context Study, project funding, and next steps.

A brief discussion was held regarding the history of Katherine Dunham and African-American churches.

Proclamation - Honoring Joe Belman's 100th Birthday

Councilman Guerrero read a Proclamation Honoring Joe Belman's 100th Birthday.

Mr. Belman thanked the Mayor and Council for the recognition of his 100th Birthday.

Mayor D'Arcy highlighted his relationship with Mr. Belman.

Councilman Guerrero spoke regarding the redlining map previously discussed and how this needs to be taken into account when making future plans for the City.

Jayne Bernhard explained the framework is being set for this project and then all groups will be contacted.

A brief discussion was held regarding the whereabouts of Katherine Dunham's statue.

PUBLIC COMMENTS:

Jim Lanham spoke regarding predators and asked that the City of Joliet be declared a non-sanctuary city. He also requested the release of an inspector general report.

MAYOR AND COUNCIL COMMENTS:

Councilwoman Reardon congratulated Joe Belman and the Louise Coleman family.

Councilwoman Quillman highlighted the Joliet West Girls' Bowling Team on winning the State Championship, Joe Belman's birthday, and an event honoring the volunteers at Bicentennial Park.

Councilman Mudron highlighted Joliet area wrestlers and Dillon Johnson's championship.

Councilwoman Ibarra highlighted the upcoming gala for the Casseday House, Mr. Belman's birthday, and the honorary street naming for Louise Coleman.

Councilman Hug congratulated the Coleman family and Joe Belman.

Mayor D'Arcy congratulated the Coleman family and Joe Belman.

CLOSED SESSION to discuss the following subjects:

A motion was made by Councilwoman Suzanna Ibarra, seconded by Councilman Cesar Guerrero, to enter into closed session to discuss personnel, collective bargaining, land acquisition or conveyance, pending or threatened litigation after which the meeting will be adjourned.
