Yard Waste Collection Resumes the Week of Monday, March 11, 2024

The City of Joliet and Waste Management announce weekly yard waste collection resumes Monday, March 11, and runs through Friday, December 6, 2024.  Yard waste must be placed alongside garbage and recycling carts, prior to 7:00 a.m. on your regularly scheduled collection day.

Yard waste consists of grass clippings, leaves, shrubbery cuttings, tree branches (less than three inches in diameter), and brush. Yard waste should be prepared in the following manner for collection:

  • Brush and branches must be cut into 4-foot lengths and securely bundled with string or twine
  • Each bundle must not exceed 50 pounds
  • Unbundled brush and branches will not be collected
Yard waste must be placed in either 30-gallon brown paper yard waste bags or in clearly labeled 32-gallon containers. Non-standard containers such as drums, baskets, etc. will not be collected. Sod, dirt, stone, concrete, rock, whole trees, stumps, and tree limbs greater than three inches in diameter are not part of the weekly yard waste program.

All 32-gallon containers used for yard waste must be properly labeled.  YARD WASTE ONLY labels are available free of charge at the following locations:

  • Joliet City Hall – Information Services (150 W Jefferson St)
  • Jewel-Osco (1401 W Jefferson St, 1537 N Larkin Ave, and 2480 IL. RT. 59)
