State Representative Tim Ozinga (R-Mokena) has urged for property tax relief following Governor Pritzker's budget address. In a statement released after the address, Rep. Ozinga expressed his disagreement with the Governor's approach to allocating additional revenues, particularly criticizing the focus on funding the Illinois Arts Council over addressing the needs of constituents.

Rep. Ozinga emphasized the importance of implementing bold solutions to provide property tax relief to Illinois residents, especially those struggling to afford their homes. Earlier this month, Rep. Ozinga introduced House Bill 4866, a groundbreaking legislation aimed at combating opportunity deserts and addressing high property taxes. The bill proposes an annual program to award property tax relief swaps to school districts, potentially leading to a significant reduction in property tax levies for some districts. If passed, the bill could result in over $3 billion dollars of property tax relief in the next fiscal year.
