Q4 2021 Recap: 26 parolees from Will County convicted of crimes involving weapons set for release

There were 26 offenders convicted of crimes involving weapons living in Will County released on parole during the fourth quarter of 2021, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the Will County Gazette.

The data shows all of the released offenders among the parolees were men. The median age of the parolees sentenced for crimes involving weapons was 29. The youngest parolee was a 23-year-old man sentenced in 2021, and the oldest was a 50-year-old man sentenced in 2021.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was Shyhiem Atkinson. He was convicted in 2015 when he was 20 years old. He is now 28.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
