At the March 21 meeting of the Crete Monee School District 201U Board of Education, the board presented a special commendation to Ben Deutsche, a student at Crete-Monee High School.

Steven Warrick, the president of the Will County Farm Bureau honored Ben  for his work and achievements in the field of agriculture.

“Ben is continuing the legacy of agricultural education and leadership to his community here at Crete-Monee High School," Warrick said. "Ben is promoting the importance of agriculture to the local region and the state economies. By Ben promoting agriculture in the high school he is also helping promote jobs in agriculture, as agriculture is the largest employer in the state of Illinois."

Warrick touched on Ben's long family history in agriculture.

"(Ben) comes from a long line of 100-plus years of Deutsch family farms," Warrick said. "The Deutsch family has made tremendous strides in the area of land, as well as raising and breeding of Shorthorn cattle. The FAA here at Crete-Monee High School is fortunate to have a person of Ben's caliber to lead by example in agriculture and its educational status.”

Warrick acknowledged Crete-Monee High School and its school district for their  support of the agricultural program and awareness campaigns. Warrick said that the school board has been instrumental in providing students the necessary opportunities and education to participate in these programs.

Board member Jeanine Galbraith also expressed her appreciation to Ben.

"I would also like to say congratulations," Galbraith said. "I know many of your family members and you couldn't set a better example for this town."

Galbraith said the district's agricuture program needs more attention.

"Many people don't know that we have that program," Galbraith said. "So I hope that you and everybody that's in it can spread the word, because it's very, very important not only to this area but to the world. So thank you for what you're doing as a young person, and I'm sure you're going to do a lot more. We're going to hear a lot more about you."
