Peotone School Board President: 'These students have demonstrated outstanding behavior'

The Peotone school board recognized students from the district for different achievements.

“There is one student of the month for each grade level,” Board President Tara Robinson said during the meeting. “These students have demonstrated outstanding behavior, good work ethic, and have gone above and beyond the call of duty at Peotone Junior High School.”

The meeting minutes noted Trustee Dawn Love was absent from the meeting.

A freshman from Peotone High school, Autumn Regal, was recognized by the school board for being the academic student of the month. Her parents, Jeff and Dolores also celebrated with her. Autumn is a member of a book club, math club, art club, scholastic bowl and student council. She likes to volunteer outside of school and also enjoys sewing, cooking, and photography.

The board voted to approve four students to graduate early from Peotone High school. The students are Nicholas LaPapa, Madeline Matejka, Tara Pleckham and Kiley Thatcher.

Also recognized by the school board was senior Marco Spinazzola, who had just recorded his 100th career win in wrestling. He was commended for his positive display of the district. The board also recognized Sophie Novoa, Lila Leighton, and Tyler Leitelt as the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders of the month respectively.

The board will meet again at 6 p.m. on Jan. 18 at Peotone High School on 605 West North Street.

Also recognized by the school board was Wyatt Luke, who is a sophomore. When they read a book about woodworking in his English class, he decided to build a rolling podium out of wood with the help of his father. The board complimented his skills and dedication to the project and thanked him for his representation of the district.

The board voted to approve the district’s 2022 Tax Levy. The board noted the district has $13.6 million in the levy.
