Veterans Assistance Commission moves to limit public comment

The Veterans Assistance Commission of Will County will move to change their bylaws to limit public comments during their meetings, according to the September 13, 2022, meeting agenda (See Agenda Item IX (A)).

This move comes after several months of the alleged executive committee members unlawfully limiting public comments and threatening to have Sheriff’s Deputies remove speakers who speak longer than three minutes, even though the committee has acknowledged in writing to the AG they have no policy, and also verbally during at least two public meetings.

Now this commission of Veterans wants to limit the speech of other Veterans and citizens.

We urge the Delegates and Alternates to decline this policy if it includes a three-minute time limit and pass a policy creating a five-minute limit. This decision is left to the Delegates and Alternates, not to the committee.

We also urge the Delegates and Alternates to insists on a published search for a Superintendent, and a full commission interview of the applicants, and to not simply rubber-stamp the name this alleged illegal committee puts forth.
