State Rep. Mark Batinick (R-Plainfield) recently voted in support of legislation that will make amendments to the state's Procurement Code.
House Bill 2770 will amend the Illinois Procurement Code and require the Capital Development Board and the Department of Transportation to prepare quarterly reports on the status of change order requests. The legislation has passed both chambers unanimously. Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed the bill into law May 6.
"This is a step in the right direction on what is going to be a long journey. Vote aye," Batinick said from the House floor on April 9.
The bill also requires construction agencies that are procuring construction and construction-related professional services to make "reasonable efforts to contract with Illinois businesses" and to provide a bid preference to a responsible bidder that is an Illinois business.
House Bill 2770 goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2023, except for certain provisions that have taken effect immediately.
