CIT OF WILMINGTON: City Council Recognition

Approved

City of Wilmington issued the following announcement on Feb. 5.

The Wilmington Police Department would like to send our sincere appreciation to our City Council for their unanimous approval of Resolution 2021-01.  The resolution addresses the 760 page anti-law enforcement legislation that was recently passed in both the House and the Senate during the recent lame duck session, with less than 1 hour to read, at 4:49am!  HB 3653 is an attempt to delegitimize the law enforcement profession, reduce municipal authority, and prioritize criminals over the safety of law-abiding citizens and police officers.

The document the City Council passed disapproves of the legislative process that went into HB3653 and recommends that Governor Pritzker veto it.

The Wilmington Police Department is truly grateful for this support shown by our City Council.  We are fortunate because many municipal officials do not support or defend their police departments in disapproval of such a disgraceful bill as HB 3653.

We are also grateful for the many emails, phone calls, and social media posts from our amazing residents that have also spoke up about this terrible bill.
