Illinois State House District 37 issued the following announcement on Nov. 11.
Statement From Rep. McDermed on Cancelled Veto Session
On Tuesday, November 10th House Speaker Michael Madigan made the decision to cancel veto session previously scheduled for November and December. State Representative Margo McDermed (R-Mokena) released the following statement in response:
“If the Governor can be amongst crowds in the streets, then the General Assembly can be in Springfield. The Speaker is afraid of getting his members together in one place where they can discuss a much needed change in leadership. When House Republicans speak about one person holding too much power, this is exactly what we mean. The people of Illinois need leadership from the General Assembly on the issues of COVID-19, unemployment, public safety, inequality, and more. They’re demanding it. However, because one man says so, the General Assembly will continue to shirk its responsibilities. We should be working. Shame on Speaker Madigan.”
