Jim Oberweis is declaring victory in the 14th Congressional District.
However, his opponent, incumbent Lauren Underwood, has not yet conceded.
“We won this race because we had a better message and because I am a better fit for this district,” Oberweis said in an interview with DuPage Policy Journal. “I stand for low taxes, strong border security and free market solutions to making healthcare more affordable while preserving coverage for pre-existing conditions.”
Oberweis said they had anticipated that the race would be a close one.
“The vote margin, while a narrow one, shows me in the lead,” Oberweis said. “We expect the margins to change, but we are confident the outcome will remain the same.”
Oberweis said voters no longer wanted Underwood representing them.
“Voters in the 14th District do not want a Nancy Pelosi protégé representing them in Congress,” Oberweis said. “They want thoughtful, independent leaders who will stand against the radical policies of the left and with me serving as their Congressman – that is exactly what they will get.”
Oberweis said from the beginning he has stood his ground as the “law and order” candidate.
“I very early on pledged to defend the police — not defund the police,” Oberweis said. “I very clearly and concisely condemned the rioting and looting taking place in cities across the nation including some communities in the 14th District. Underwood, on the other hand, refused to condemn rioting and looting and instead talked about ‘beautiful protests.’”
Oberweis said he will represent the entire district and keep his constituents as his highest priority.
“People can expect to be treated with dignity and respect when they contact my office,” Oberweis said. “Serving the people of the 14th District will be my highest priority and I will help everyone regardless of their party affiliation.”
Oberweis said Republicans did well this election cycle.
“Here in Illinois, Democrats have total control of state government,” Oberweis said. “Many voters in Illinois are very concerned about what is happening in Springfield. They are tired of the high taxes and the lack of fiscal discipline at the state level. Voters voiced their displeasure with how Democrats have run Illinois by flipping four Democrat House seats to Republican and by resoundingly rejecting the governor’s progressive income tax amendment and voting to not retain Democrat Supreme Court Justice Thomas Kilbride.”
