Lockport FPD responds to 222 fires in 2018

Lockport Fire Protection District responded to 1527 calls in 2018 - 4.9 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Lockport included 222 fires - 104 structure fires, 28 vehicle fires and 90 other fires. The fire department also responded to 11 calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $1,602,960 in fire loss - or about $7,221 per fire.

The department also received 1294 false calls, including 33 malicious calls and 1261 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury. Additionally, two fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents.

The Lockport Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $23,040,541 in 2018.

The Lockport Township FPD Pension Fund, which has 87 active employees and 45 retired or inactive employees, was $410,627 in debt as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $1,669 for every fire in 2017.
