Manhattan FPD responds to 29 fires in 2018

Manhattan Fire Protection District responded to 125 calls in 2018 - 27.6 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Manhattan included 29 fires - seven structure fires, two vehicle fires and 20 other fires.

In all, the department saw $70,000 in fire loss - or about $2,414 per fire.

The department also received 96 false calls, including one malicious call and 95 other false calls.

The Manhattan Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $3,025,685 in 2018.

The Manhattan FPD Firefighter's Pension Fund, which has 13 active employees and one retired or inactive employee, was $24,973 positive as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $1,041 for every fire in 2017.
