New Lenox FPD responds to 101 fires in 2018

New Lenox Fire Protection District responded to 531 calls in 2018 - 13.9 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in New Lenox included 101 fires - 56 structure fires, 14 vehicle fires and 31 other fires. The fire department also responded to two calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $328,307 in fire loss - or about $3,251 per fire.

The department also received 428 false calls, including eight malicious calls and 420 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related death. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The New Lenox Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $8,102,190 in 2017.

The New Lenox FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 16 active employees and seven retired or inactive employees, was $181,054 positive as of December 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $1,414 for every fire in 2017.
