City of Lockport issued the following announcement on May 28.
The City of Lockport continues to explore and advance opportunities which best serve our community in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. While the health and safety of all individuals is our top priority, the City remains committed to supporting the economic vitality and success of our local businesses including bars and restaurants which provide valued services and dining experiences to our residents and guests.
On Sunday, May 24, 2020 the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (IDCEO) as part of the Phase 3 Restore Illinois Plan, issued guidelines for restaurants and bars to operate outdoor dining starting Friday, May 29, 2020. Through the IDCEO website, their Business Toolkit now includes these Restaurants & Bars for Outdoor Dining Guidelines.
Temporary Order No. 2020-03 & Temporary Outdoor Permit Application
On Wednesday, May 27, 2020, Mayor Steven Streit who also serves as the Local Liquor Commissioner, entered Temporary Order No. 2020-03 allowing for the consumption of alcoholic beverages for outdoor dining. The Temporary Order also provides an opportunity for bars/restaurants to apply for expansion of existing dining/drinking areas or propose new outdoor dining/drinking areas. Bar/Restaurant Licensees are advised to read each document carefully as they include regulations that will govern the operation and establishment of the physical space.

The Temporary Outdoor Permit Application should be completed and returned if you are interested in: 1) expansion of the current outdoor dining/drinking area or 2) New proposed outdoor/drinking area.
Inspections by the Building Department are required prior to starting operations. The department is committed turning around the applications in one day to allow owners to be ready to welcome patrons as soon as possible.
