Fairmont School District 89 Committee of the Whole met Dec. 10.
Here is the minutes provided by the committee:
I. Call to Order – Mr. Louis Spoonhour called to order the Fairmont School Board Meeting at 12:00pm on December 10, 2019.
II. Roll Call – Members Present: Mrs. Cardenas, Mr. Spoonhour, Mrs. Posey, Mrs. Pierzchalski, Mrs. Custer, and Mrs. Hunsaker. Members Absent: Mrs. Wright.
III. Petitions and Communication to the Board – In accordance with Board Policy 2:230, individuals may address the Board only at the appropriate time as indicated on the agenda and when recognized by the Board President. Comments shall be limited to 2 minutes.
a. Public Comment
i. Public Comment – State Art Winners – Dr. Abdelhadi commented on the two state winners from Fairmont School and had them presented to the School Board.
ii. Public Comment – The Board Members gave feedback and a brief report on the Triple I Conference attended for 2019.
IV. Committee Reports:

b. Finance / O and M Committee –Mr. Lou Spoonhour, Mrs. Janice Posey, Mrs. Karen Hunsaker, Gerry Yeggy, Brian Chandler
i. Technology Updates- Mr. Chandler gave updates on ACCESS testing; Mobile Device Management, as well as Gym speakers being placed by December 16, 2019.
ii. Summer Repair Work – Mr. Yeggy reported that summer repair work is completed. Roof bids were rewarded and on schedule at this time. During winter break some repairs will be done in the school.
iii. Procurement Card for Learning Community – Update given by Mr. Chandler and stated the application process is complete and ready for approval at next Board meeting.
iv. Misc. Mr. Spoonhour spoke of the potential growth in the community in the next two to ten years ahead.
v. Next Meeting – The next scheduled meeting is 10:00 prior to Committee of the Whole
c. Policy Committee – Mrs. Karen Custer has meeting following this meeting regarding updates on policy.
i. First Reading at the Board Meeting. Policy Committee will meet after this.
d. Parent Teacher Advisory Committee – Mrs. Dionne Wright, Mrs. Janice Posey, Mrs. Karen Hunsaker, and Mrs. Custer – Bilingual Meeting Report read by Mrs. Hunsaker.
e. Behavioral Interventions Committee – Mrs. Dionne Wright, Mrs. Janice Posey, Mrs. Karen Hunsaker, Mrs. Linda Pierzchalski. Next Meetings - December 18, 2019 and March 18, 2019.
V. New Business. Next Board Meeting- Action / Discussion Items briefed by Dr. Cepela a-i.
a. Personnel –
i. Staffing 2019-2020 – as part of the PFAE Grant we are required to have a lead teacher. We will need to fill this spot.
ii. Misc. – Superintendent’s Evaluation
b. Next Board Meeting is Wednesday, December 18, 2019 – Board Pictures
c. Procurement Card Information: Final Reading of the Procurement Card Resolution. This will be an action item at the December Board Meeting.
d. Procurement Card Information: Final Reading of the Procurement Card Handbook. This will be an action item at the December Board Meeting.
e. Timeline for Approval of Levy: Our levy is due to the County Clerk’s Office by the 4th Tuesday of December. The final levy will be an action item at the December Board meeting.
f. Superintendent’s Evaluation. The self-evaluation materials will be presented at the December Board Meeting. The Superintendent’s evaluation is due March 1. This will be an information and discussion item.
g. Possible 2020 – 2021 School Year Calendar – we are waiting on the LTHS final document. We will do a first reading in December with Final Approval in January.
h. E-Learning Days – Update. Requires a public hearing with posting in the paper. We will then need approval from ROE. January Meeting – with Board approval to move forward.
i. Misc. Mr. Spoonhour gave feedback on the Senior Day the day prior, about the good behavior and respect the students demonstrated that day. Everyone who attended gave positive remarks about the school, the students and the hospitality room.

a. January Committee Meeting Day: The January Committee Meetings are scheduled for the first Tuesday of January - Tuesday, January 7, 2020. This is because the Board of Education Meeting is the third Wednesday - Wednesday, January 15, 2019 at 5:30 at Fairmont School District 89 Board Room. The second Tuesday is adjacent to the third Wednesday.
b. National School Board Conference in Chicago – April 4-6, McCormick Place
