Property tax bills for Will County residents went out for thousands of property owners in the county, and treasurer Tim Brophy is asking the 5,000 individuals who usually pay in person to try another way.
Brophy is hoping that people will embrace payment by mail with the included envelope, or move to paying online at willcountytreasurer.com or through their bank. There are also two drop boxes in the county building’s parking lot or lobby.
Brophy does not have the authority to waive late fees or change the date that tax bills are due, although the Will County Board has some authority to waive the penalties and interest for individuals who don’t pay on time.
Even with that information, it’s still important to pay taxes as quickly as possible and by the due date.
“It is important to maintain the county’s tax cycle to ensure revenues are available to continue critical services for our residents,” Brophy said in an interview with 95.9 The River.
Tax bills started going out on May 1, and are due June 3.
