Beecher Community Unit School District 200U met Dec. 2.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

The meeting was called to order at 5:30 pm with committee members, Juan Hernandez; chairman, Paul Goldrick and Julie Papas; alternate were present. Ronald S. Mazurek was absent.

Others in attendance: Brad Cox, Nicole Black, Jack Gaham, Marla Heldt, and Mike Stanula

During Public Comment, J. Karla Wcisel inquired about high school sidewalk bids. Mr. Cox indicated the district had received three bids. She requested copies of the bids.

Superintendent Cox began with an update on the Asbestos Removal Phase I. It is hoped the district would seek bids around December 17 or 18 followed by a January 2020 Board approval of bids. He also updated the committee with information regarding the replacement process and estimated costs he received from BLDD Architects. Included in the replacement process a suggested addition of faculty bathrooms and conference room located in the courtyard area. Also the replacement of the exterior threshold of the front doors at the high school entrance is need of replacement and repair. Estimated costs were provided for each item.

Discussion took place. Several concerns using large portions of the district’s reserves to pay for the completed projects were addressed and led into a lengthy discussion.

Superintendent Cox also updated the committee on the ten-year Life Safety Audit. A copy of the audit and a list of findings should be available soon. A January 2020 Board approval of the audit will placed on the agenda.

Maintenance Director, Mike Stanula explained floor and seating concerns and issues at the junior high gym. He provided options and estimated costs for the floor repair and purchase of additional seating/bleachers.

Discussion took place regarding the high school driveway repaving project which will take place this summer. The elementary west drive will also be included in the project. Coring tests will need to take place and would be an additional cost. A suggestion was made to also pave an area out at the bus facility where buses are parked each day.

It was requested that a list of the discussed projects and more definitive costs associated with each be provided so priorities can be discussed and made.

Elementary and high school HVAC issues continue to be explored.

Junior high and high school track and soccer fields continue to be discussed. Also under consideration and discussion is to improve the elementary school drive flow of traffic.

Mr. Cox provided a copy of the BLDD Architects contract for Asbestos Removal Phase I. The contract will need approval at the December 2019 Board approval.

An explanation and diagram of the sidewalk replacement and repair was provided by Mr. Cox and Mike Stanula. Discussion took place.

During Public Comment, J. Karla Wcisel commented on the 4.5 tax rate. She also stated that she had requested financial information from the district but had not received it.

The meeting adjourned at 6:53 pm.
