The price of local government in 2017: City of Crest Hill

The City of Crest Hill budget was $30.65 million for its 2017 fiscal year, or $5,144 per household.

That's an increase of 22.2 percent from 2016, when the city spent $25.07 million, or $4,208 per household.

Crest Hill has 5,958 households and a population of 20,837.

Since 2001, the City of Crest Hill budget has grown by 197.1 percent, from $10.32 million. The city population has grown 56.3 percent over the same period, from 13,329.

Salaries accounted for 17.5 percent of city spending in 2017. Crest Hill property taxpayers paid $5.36 million for 60 full-time employees and 32 part-time employees.

In 2001, the city had 48 full-time employees and four part-time employees, and spent $3.38 million.
