Braidwood City Council met Dec. 19.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

Call to Order

Mayor Vehrs called the meeting to order at 5:30pm.

Pledge of Allegiance

Mayor Vehrs asked everyone to please stand for the Pledge of Allegiance.

Roll Call

Elected Officials present: Commissioner Hibler, Commissioner Hutton, Commissioner Smith, Commissioner Tessler and Mayor Vehrs were present.

Appointed officials present: City Attorney Kopman, City Clerk Sue Grygiel, City Administrator Don Labriola and Chief Ficarello were present. City Engineer Todd Gereaux was absent.

Public Comment

Opened at 5:30pm.

Pete DelAquilla, from Braidwood Area Healthy Community Coalition addressed the city council. Pete introduced the Coalition’s new Coordinator, Sheree Woods. Sheree then formally introduced herself to the city council.

Closed at 5:31pm.

Approval of Minutes

Comm. Smith made a motion to approve the Regular Meeting Minutes of December 11, 2018, seconded by Comm. Hibler. Motion approved 5 ayes, 0 nays (Smith, Hibler, Hutton, Tessler & Mayor Vehrs).

REPORTS BY CITY OFFICIALS

Mayor

Mayor Vehrs wished everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy Prosperous New Year.

Administrator

Don then addressed his Agenda item, Resolution 18-26. He said some time ago the City of Braidwood and the Braidwood Healthy Coalition got together and applied for a Grant that provides Preventative Services. With Execution of this Grant the city is required to oversee the Grant, its funding. Through this Grant we are hiring (1) Full Time and (1) Part Time employee for the Braidwood Coalition. They’re officially hired under the City of Braidwood and will be paid through the Grant. The Grant is for $125,000 for 5 yrs. and no funds will be coming out of the City of Braidwood’s Budget. Both Don and the Chief will be helping to administer the Grant program. Their office will be in the old Custer Park School building. So the Resolution to Execute this needs to be approved by the city council and to start processing the funds.

Comm. Hutton made a motion to approved Resolution 18-26, Authorizing the Execution of a Memorandum of Understanding and Two Employment Agreements for the Administration of a Substance Abuse Grant, seconded by Comm. Smith. Motion approved 5 ayes, 0 nays (Hutton, Smith, Hibler, Tessler & Mayor Vehrs).

REPORTS BY CITY COMMISSIONERS

Accounts & Finances

Comm. Hibler made a motion to pay the total bills due on our Check Register in the amount of

$193,932.63, seconded by Comm. Smith. Motion approved with 5 ayes, 0 nays (Hibler, Smith, Hutton, Tessler & Mayor Vehrs).

Comm. Hibler made a motion to approve the Payroll Expenses in the amount of $131,888.58, seconded by Comm. Smith. Motion approved 5 ayes, 0 nays (Hibler, Smith, Hutton, Tessler & Mayor Vehrs).

Comm. Hibler addressed the Agenda item Resolution 18-25. The commissioner said she is not presenting it and is not asking the council to take any action on it.

Comm. Hibler then addressed Ordinance 18-21, Ordinance for the Levy & Assessment of Taxes for the City of Braidwood, Will & Grundy Counties, IL for Fiscal Year Beginning May 1, 2018 and Ending

April 30, 2019. The total amount of our Levy Request is $1,675,100.00.

Comm. Hibler made a motion to approve Ordinance 18-21, seconded by Comm. Smith. Motion approved

5 ayes, 0 nays (Hibler, Smith, Hutton, Tessler & Mayor Vehrs).

Streets & Public Improvements

Comm. Smith said they saved about $1,300 by having someone take the tree down that was over a house. His concern was the insurance if something were to happen with his men while taking the tree down, felt safer having someone come and take it down, then his men cleaned up once the tree was down which took less than 2 hours. Comm. Smith said they’re going to do the same with the other trees in that alley.

Public Property

Comm. Hutton gave the plant crew and the outside crew report.

Public Health & Safety

Comm. Tessler gave the numbers report provided by the Chief for the period from 12/11/18- 12/19/18. Their total calls for service for this period were 126. Comm. Tessler reminded everyone that Shop with a Cop is this coming Friday. On Friday at 3:30pm the families and the Police Officers donating their time will be meeting here in city hall then heading to Wal-Mart in Morris. The Chief let him know that they had such generous donations, they can now help (5) families. Comm. Tessler thanked everyone for their generous donations and their time.

Comm. Smith made motion to adjourn the Special Meeting at 5:41pm, seconded by Comm. Tessler. Motion approved with 5 ayes, 0 nays (Smith, Tessler, Hibler, Hutton & Mayor Vehrs).
