Joliet Catholic offensive linemen Dave Monnot III and Ty O’Janovac have signed letters-of-intent with Purdue and Western Illinois football, respectively.
“Congratulations,” school officials recently posted on the team’s Facebook page. “They will be honored at school among their peers this spring at a signing ceremony.”
It’s been a year of achievement for the Hilltoppers, who won the school’s 14th state championship under coach Jake Jaworski this season, edging Montini Catholic 35-27 for the Class 5A crown.
Joliet Catholic finished the season at 9-4 and racked up 466 yards rushing in the title game. Seniors Nick Iannantone and Keenan Hailey raced for four scores between them in the win over Montini.
“Sometimes it didn’t look like there was light at the end of the tunnel,” Jaworski told the Chicago Tribune of his team’s early-season struggles. “[But] we knew this [senior] class was pretty talented, and we had some big guys up front. Us coaches felt if we could get into the playoffs, we could do it.”
