The majority of votes went to the Democratic Party in Will County, including for sheriff, clerk and other key local races.
In the race for Will County County Clerk, Joliet Democrat Lauren Staley-Ferry bested Republican Laurie McPhillips. McPhillips had received an endorsement from incumbent Will County Clerk Nancy Schultz-Voots, but the backing did not translate into a win.
“Thanks to everyone who came out and supported my campaign,” McPhillips wrote on Facebook after the election. “I truly appreciated it, but unfortunately we came up short. We ran a tough campaign and I thank you all!”

Local labor unions helped fund Staley-Ferry's campaign, and she gained 6,000 more votes than her opponent.
Meanwhile, Will County Sheriff Mike Kelley, a Lockport Democrat incumbent, will continue to run Illinois’ second-largest sheriff's department, beating Sheriff’s Deputy Jim Reilly, a Wilmington Republican, by 38,000 votes, according to an unofficial vote count.
Kelley won in a close race against Ken Kaupas in 2014 and has served in the Will County Sheriff’s Department for three decades. Kelley raised over $100,000 during his re-election campaign.
“Thank you to all who supported me during this campaign! I couldn’t have done it without each and every one of you,” Kelley wrote in a Facebook post after his victory. “We did this, and we did it BIG! Couldn’t be happier!”
Reilly also took to Facebook to thank his many campaign supporters.
