Alyssia Benford, state House candidate for District 98, has received an endorsement from The Chicago Tribune.
In an Oct. 20 Facebook post, Benford quoted the Tribune’s testimonial, which mentions Benford “is a recent breast cancer survivor, a 25-year certified public accountant who co-owns a firm and a community activist.”
The editorial sharply criticized Benford’s opponent, incumbent state Rep. Natalie Manley (D-Joliet), who has attempted to associate Benford with President Donald Trump.

“Apparently, Manley doesn’t have a strong record to stand on so she’s trying to tarnish Benford’s,” according to the Tribune.
The endorsement also said although Manley initially promised frugal spending, she has supported tax hikes and an out-of-balance budget from House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago).
“Benford is running for this southwest suburban seat so she can be a strong voice for responsible spending,” the Tribune said. “Voters in this district need to wake up. Benford is endorsed.”
On her website, Benford identifies key issues as a balanced state budget, property tax reform, school choice, term limits and small-business support.
"Education is one of my top priorities, and as a legislator, I will fight to make sure every child in Illinois has the same opportunity that I had," Benford states on her website.
Benford and Manley will face off Nov. 6 to represent the 98th District, including part of Chicago, and the communities of Crest Hill, Du Page, Joliet, Lockport, Plainfield, Troy and Wheatland.
