New Lenox FPD responds to 70 fires in 2017

New Lenox Fire Protection District responded to 424 calls in 2017 - 30.4 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in New Lenox included 70 fires - 49 structure fires, two vehicle fires and 19 other fires. The fire department also responded to three calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $425,050 in fire loss - or about $6,072 per fire.

The department also received 351 false calls, including 12 malicious calls and 339 other false calls.

The New Lenox Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $7,150,112 in 2016.

The New Lenox FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 16 active employees and seven retired or inactive employees, was $64,325 positive as of December 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $559 for every fire in 2016.
