Mokena FPD responds to 61 fires in 2017

Mokena Fire Protection District responded to 514 calls in 2017 - 12.6 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Mokena included 61 fires - 40 structure fires, seven vehicle fires and 14 other fires. The fire department also responded to three calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $847,050 in fire loss - or about $13,886 per fire.

The department also received 450 false calls, including 154 malicious calls and 296 other false calls.

Two fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents and two were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Mokena Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $6,437,584 in 2017.

The Mokena FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 34 active employees and six retired or inactive employees, was $166,831 positive as of May 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $2,490 for every fire in 2016.
