Rylan Bannon wasn’t content with just being named an Advanced California League All-Star.
The former Joliet Catholic and Class A minor leaguer for the Dodgers at Rancho Cucamonga was named an all-star after hitting .280 with 13 doubles, five triples, 15 homers and 42 RBIs over the first half of the season. Bannon’s slugging power put him among the league leaders in total extra-base hits, triples and homers.
Bannon’s power was on full display during the Home Run Derby held in the lead-up to the game during all-star festivities.
There, he smashed 11 homers in the opening three-minute round to reach the finals, where he added 10 more to finish second overall to Lancaster’s Roberto Ramos' total of 11 in his own ballpark.
Earlier in the regular season, both Bannon and Ramos pulled off three-homer games at the Lancaster ballpark, with Bannon’s feat coming on August 18.
For the season, Ramos leads the league with 17 homers with Bannon a close second at 15
Bannon drew a walk in four at-bats at the All-Star game, which his South team lost 8-1.
