City of Joliet Stadium Committee met May 14.

Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:

1. Roll Call

Present: Councilman Pat Mudron, Councilwoman Jan Hallums Quillman, Councilman Michael F. Turk.

Absent: None.

Also Present: David Hales - City Manager, Jim Trizna - Directors of Public Work, Mike Eulitz - Public Assets Manager, Heather Mills – General Manager of the Joliet Slammers.

2. Approval Of Minutes – April 2, 2018

Motion to approve the minutes of the April 2, 2018 Stadium Committee meeting was made by Councilman Michael F. Turk.

Motion seconded by Councilwoman Jan Hallums Quillman.

Motion carried by the following vote:

Ayes: Councilman Pat Mudron, Councilwoman Jan Hallums Quillman, Councilman Michael F. Turk.

Nays: None.

3. Citizens To Be Heard On Agenda Items

4. Request For Authorization To Purchase Materials To Construct A Permanent Pavilion At The Rte. 66 Baseball Stadium

Public Assets Manager Mike Eulitz presented a plan to the Committee to purchase materials to build a permanent structure in the Joliet Route 66 Stadium. He stated the City is working in conjunction with the Joliet Park District to build this structure. A brief discussion was held regarding the benefits of the pavilion.

A brief discussion was held regarding proposals, funding and labor for this project. 

Motion to recommend that Mike Eulitz move forward with obtaining additional proposals for the purchase of materials to construct a permanent pavilion at the Route 66 Baseball Stadium for review to bring forward to full Council at a later date was made by Councilman Michael F. Turk.

Motion seconded by Councilwoman Jan Hallums Quillman.

Motion carried by the following vote:

Ayes: Councilman Pat Mudron, Councilwoman Jan Hallums Quillman, Councilman Michael F. Turk.

Nays: None.

5. Stadium Work Update

Director of Public Works Jim Trizna gave a brief update on the progress of the turf installation, wall pads, and carpeting. Besides some landscape restoration along the fence line, the project is nearly complete. Mr. Trizna stated this past weekend the field was striped and the mound was removed for a soccer event. General Manager Heather Mills stated there is no evidence of drainage issues.

6. Slammers Update

General Manager Heather Mills stated the facility has been utilized for local high school baseball games, soccer tournaments, and the upcoming Slammers Baseball games.

In response to Councilwoman Quillman's questions, a brief discussion was held regarding the menu for this season. Ms. Mills stated MyGrain and Elder Brewing will be supplying local craft beers.

A brief discussion was held regarding rental prices of the stadium.

7. Slammers Lease Update

City Manager David Hales stated this is a work in progress and am hoping to meet by the end of May to follow up on the lease.

8. Set Stadium Meeting Dates

Councilman Mudron stated administration is requesting standard dates and time for Committee meetings and asked for feedback. He suggested meeting the Monday preceding Council meetings on a monthly basis until the lease is agreed upon. A brief discussion was held.
