Construction for the Village of Romeoville’s long-awaited Metra stop is expected to finish by Thanksgiving and begin service in February, village leaders said in a news release.
The “Heritage Corridor” stop at the intersection of 135th Street and New Avenue will drop passengers off in Chicago at Union Station.
“The Village has been waiting a long time for this Metra stop,” Mayor John Noak said in the release. “This is going to be a convenience for area residents and businesses.”
Romeoville’s village board on Nov. 1 approved contracts for parking and landscaping at the station. There will be 123 parking spaces total, with 24 reserved permits, which will be sold at an annual ($250) and semiannual ($125) basis, the release said.
Those without permits will be charged a $1 per-day fee to park. Users can pay online using their mobile device, or by phone. Parking permits will go on sale in January and will only be available for purchase by Romeoville residents during the first week of sale. After the first week, permits will go on sale to the general public, the release said.
Romeoville’s Metra stop is the first new stop on the Heritage Corridor since it was created in 1984. The stop is the first new Chicagoland Metra stop since 2011.
