McDermed resolution toasts Tinley Park brewery
It was a clink and cheers for Hailstorm Brewery in Tinley Park in a resolution from Rep. Margo McDermed (R-Mokena).
McDermed said in a release she filed House Resolution 678 to congratulate Hailstorm Brewery for its commendation at October’s Great American Beer Festival held in Denver.
The Tinley Park Brewery’s entry in the American Style IPA category was called Prairie Madness. The brew went on to win the silver in what’s known as the bock category for its Rock Out with Maibock Out. The American Style IPA category drew 407 other beer competitors in the festival’s most competitive category, organizers said in a release.
"The craft brewery market is exploding in Illinois, which is good for the Illinois economy and for Illinois consumers who have more choices," McDermed said in her release. "Hailstorm is an example of what small businesses can create and accomplish if the state gets out of their way.”
McDermed said she has has long been a champion of the craft beer sector. McDermed said in the release she supported legislation that enabled craft breweries to boost production from its current cap of 30,000 barrels a year to 120,000 barrels of beer per year.
Some estimates the craft beer industry in Illinois has more than a $2.5 billion impact throughout Illinois. Close to 4,500 people are employed by the industry.
