Joliet City Council issues liquor licenses

The Joliet City Council met Dec. 5 to issue liquor licenses.

Here are the meeting's minutes, as provided by the council:

Joliet is a home-rule city with a council-manager form of government. All matters of local policy and legislation are determined by the council with the mayor presiding.

PRE-COUNCIL MEETING of the Council of the City of Joliet, Illinois was held on Monday, December 5, 2016 at 5:30 P.M. in the Council Chambers, Joliet Municipal Building, 150 W. Jefferson Street, Joliet, Illinois.

I. ROLL CALL:

II. PRESENTATION: Joliet Media Campaign Update – Heritage Corridor Convention

and Visitors Bureau

Bob Navarro, President and CEO of Heritage Corridor Visitors and Convention Bureau, gave a brief overview of the Summer Media Campaign. He discussed various methods of advertising for Joliet.

Debbie Jo Erickson spoke regarding the Route 66 Miles of Possibility Convention which will be held in the City of Joliet in 2017.

III. PUBLIC HEARINGS:

A. 2017 Annual Budgets for the City of Joliet, the Joliet Public Library and the

Foreign Fire Insurance Board

The City Clerk advised that this is a Public Hearing so any public comments would be in order at this time.

The City Clerk closed the Public Hearing.

Councilman Gerl asked for clarification regarding the proposed downtown TIF.

XIII. PUBLIC COMMENTS:

Tim Shanahan, 13660 W. Bruns Road - Manhattan, spoke regarding the Rialto.

John Sheridan spoke regarding vacant and abandoned property registration.

Councilwoman Hernandez Brewer spoke in response to Mr. Sheridan's comments.

Robert Hernandez thanked the City staff for the recent snow removal and the Police Department for their fine work. He spoke in favor of the proposed expanded duties of the Inspector General.

XIV. CLOSED SESSION to discuss the following subjects:

Motion to enter closed session to discuss personnel, collective bargaining, land acquisition or conveyance and pending or threatened litigation after which the meeting will be adjourned was made by Councilman Michael F. Turk.
