Two North Central College players recently received honors from the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, the school's athletic website reported.
Quarterback Broc Rutter was named the CCIW's offensive player of the week and linebacker DJ Warkenthien earned the defensive version of the award for their efforts on Saturday, Sept. 10, when the Cardinals beat Webber International 38-21 in Naperville.
Rutter was 22-of-26 passing for 284 yards with three touchdown passes. In the third quarter alone, he was 10-of-10 passing for 163 yards. His completion percentage of 84.6 percent is the sixth-best single-game mark in that category in NCC history.
Warkenthien had a team-high eight tackles, including two sacks, to go with a forced fumble. He spearheaded the NCC defense that allowed 109 yards of total offense and recorded seven sacks, which was one short of the school's single-game record.
The Cardinals, ranked No. 9, were scheduled to play Illinois Wesleyan at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, in Bloomington.
