The Joliet Police Department is seeking individuals to join its new advisory board, created to assist the police chief in achieving a safer community.
The board will offer an open line of communication between the police department and citizens of Joliet.
"I recognize the importance of involving the community in the decision-making process as we work toward our goal of combatting crime and making the city of Joliet a safer city," Police Chief Brian Benton said. "True community policing requires a dedicated partnership and transparent effort, which both our citizens and our officers deserve."
Among the responsibilities of board members will be acting as a sounding board for the police chief in terms of the needs and concerns of its citizens, obtaining feedback from the community with regards to police services and proposed programs, and educating the community about the role of the police department.
Those interested in joining the advisory board can either apply by calling the police chief's office at 815-724-3201 or visiting the Joliet Police Department's website at jolietpolice.org.
