The City of Aurora recently began a downtown storm sewer installation and roadway rehabilitation project.
The project aims to alleviate basement sewer backups, street flooding and sewer overflows into the Fox River.
Construction work will take place along Galena Boulevard (between Stolp and LaSalle), LaSalle Street (between Galena and Downer) and Downer Place (between LaSalle and State Street).
Through August, eastbound traffic on Galena Boulevard will be reduced to one lane from Stolp Avenue to Lincoln Avenue; westbound traffic on Galena Boulevard from Lincoln Avenue to Broadway Avenue will be detoured to New York Street; traffic on Broadway Avenue will be reduced to one lane of traffic in both directions from Benton Avenue to New York Street and parking will not be permitted on this section of Broadway.
Also, as work progresses, sections of LaSalle and Downer will be intermittently closed with posted detours.
The project is projected to be complete by fall 2017, weather permitting.
