We started looking at the Veterans Assistance Commission (“VAC”) of Will County after being informed of allegations of a $495,000 no-bid contract given to a company who had not even been legally formed when the grant was approved, and whose owner was friends with the VAC Superintendent at the time, and the contract was paid in full up front and was for social media and marketing of the VAC to Will County Veterans.
We finally obtained a copy of the settlement agreement in the lawsuit where Senator Michael Hastings was sued, along with the Illinois Senate, for discrimination and harassment against Cassandra Matz, a former employee of Sen. Hastings.
In 2019, Illinois State Senator Michael Hastings and the Illinois State Senate were sued by Cassandra Matz, who was Hastings’ former Chief of Staff (See Chicago Tribune article).

During the August 4, 2022, meeting of the Veterans Assistance Commission of Will County’s alleged Executive Committee, the board entered into closed session and improperly prohibited two Commision members from attending the closed session portion of the meeting.
From among the court records available, Illinois Senator Michael E. Hastings has filed a civil case, in his private capacity, for discovery or to depose in Will County naming the City of Frankfort, Will County, and Jane Does as Defendants.
