Families in Will County are invited to attend the 10th Annual Will County Executive Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant’s Kids’ Fair. The event is scheduled for Monday, February 16, from 9 a.m. to noon at Troy Middle School, located at 5800 W. Theodore St., Plainfield, Illinois. Admission is free.

Organizers say the fair will offer activities for all ages, including storytelling, entertainment, hands-on experiences, and access to local resources. A special guest star will make an appearance between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Fairmont School District 89 represents Will County and includes Fairmont School as part of its district (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/). The district serves students from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade and had an enrollment of 322 students during the 2019-2020 school year (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).

Demographically, Fairmont School District 89 is composed of approximately 12.7 percent White students, 38.5 percent Black students, 46 percent Hispanic students, and 0.3 percent Asian students (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/). The district employs a total of 30 teachers with an average salary of $47,800 before pension contributions; about four-fifths are women (80.3 percent), while men make up the remaining share (19.7 percent). No teachers reported more than ten absences in a school year (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).

In terms of finances, the district spent $21,521 per student in the year 2020 for a total expenditure of nearly $6.93 million (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).

The Illinois State Board of Education reported that Fairmont School District 89 had a chronic truancy rate of about 28 percent during the same period—meaning that out of its enrolled students, ninety were classified as “chronically truant.” This rate is higher than the statewide average of roughly ten percent but lower than some other districts in Illinois (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).

The Kids’ Fair aims to provide local families with information and resources while offering children an opportunity for engagement and learning.
