Village of Peotone seeks applicants for public works laborer position

The Village of Peotone announced on Mar. 26 that it is accepting applications for a full-time public works laborer. The position will work Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The role is important to maintaining the safety and upkeep of the community’s infrastructure. The person hired will be responsible for tasks such as street and road maintenance, snow and ice removal, landscaping including tree planting and brush chipping, operating mowers and other equipment, storm drain maintenance, minor equipment repairs, and installing or maintaining street signs.

Preferred qualifications include a Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement or the ability to obtain one, mechanical aptitude, physical capability to perform outdoor labor, and availability during snow or ice events. The starting pay is $19 per hour with increases based on the union contract.

Benefits offered include participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund pension plan, health insurance coverage, paid holidays, vacation time, and sick leave. The position falls under the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 399 collective bargaining agreement.

Applications can be picked up at Village Hall at 208 E Main Street in Peotone or downloaded from www.villageofpeotone.com. The application deadline is April 13, 2026 or until the position is filled. The Village of Peotone said it is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
