Two new officers from the Village of Crete Police Department are progressing through their training at the police academy, according to updates shared at a recent board meeting. Trustee Holly Milburn reported during the January 26 meeting that both officers are in their fourth week and performing well.
The two officers, Caesar and Jacob Whistler, were sworn in last month and began their 16-week police academy training on January 4. Caesar is an Army reservist who speaks more than one language, while Jacob Whistler is studying criminal justice.
Police Commissioner McPhee commented on the new hires: “Both officers are excellent candidates and thanked them for joining the department, wishing them success as they continue through the academy.”
Mayor Mark Wiater also welcomed them to the department. “Thank you for choosing Crete,” he said, adding that the Village is pleased to have them join.
Police Chief Pieritz noted that hiring and screening took six months. He added that with these appointments, the department is now fully staffed again.
