Carlotta McCambridge Died March 2, 2004
Carlotta Mercedes Agnes McCambridge (1916–2004) was an American actress born in Joliet, Illinois. Her early life in Joliet influenced her path to a distinguished career in radio, stage, film, and television. Known for her Academy Award-winning role in All the King’s Men (1949) and her voice work in The Exorcist (1973), McCambridge began her career in radio during the 1930s. Despite personal struggles, including alcoholism, she left a lasting impact on the entertainment industry. McCambridge’s ties to Joliet were a significant part of her legacy, underscoring her roots and the community that shaped her early years. Her contributions are commemorated with two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
