Illinois State House District 37 issued the following announcement on April 1.
Around the world and on social media we’re seeing people stand up and applaud the efforts of our healthcare workers. We’re all going a little stir crazy at home or we’re anxious about the impact this pandemic will have on our businesses and families, but these folks are on the front lines. The stress I’m sure most of us are feeling during these challenging times are tenfold for those who are helping keep us safe and healthy at great personal risk to themselves. Quarantining ourselves and staying at home is a privilege that they aren’t afforded.
In times of crisis, the little things matter more than ever. The ‘thank yous’, the small acts of kindness, the smiles we give each other from 6 feet away because we can’t give the hugs we’d like to.
So let me take this opportunity to publicly and loudly say to all healthcare workers, whether it be the doctors, the nurses, the administrators, or the janitorial staff- thank you. I appreciate you.
I have represented this area for several years now, I know the people that make up our community. So I can say with confidence on their behalf, thank you. We appreciate you. We’re all thinking of you.
To my residents, I make this ask- think of what you can do to help others today. Donate blood, order a few pizzas for your local health clinic or police station, offer to pet sit for your healthcare worker neighbor, or any number of other ways to show your appreciation. Most importantly, stay home so they can do their jobs.
